“The County Denies the Sheriffs’ request for additional equipment and personell.
Today Washington County officials and the County Sheriff , Gus Decisari, gathered to discuss the possible adding of equipment and personel to the cities police department. Sheriff Decisari expressed his concern for the citizens as the crime rate has been growing in the recent months. He also expressed the age of the vehicles that his deputies were driving and that it was a concern for the counties reliability for law enforcement.. The discussion quickly turned into a strong tempered and somewhat slandering meeting as there were some questionable comments made by our city leaders regarding the migrants in the area. “ We have never had problems until we began letting migrants come to this county to work” said Sheriff Decisari. Regarding the amount of crime in his city. The 2 sides argued over the objectional comments made by the sheriff . “ Those people who come here to work are decent, hardworking people being employed at jobs that local residents don’t want to do, they add a great deal to the economy and they pay taxes,” said County Commissioner member Shenuski.
The Sheriffs request for money for new cruisers and deputies was voted down 5-2 as the reasoning by the board of Commisioners was that the budget just simply couldn’t allow it. So for now our county law enforcement seems to be operating without the unecessary equipment to be confident in keeping us safe and secure.
